I’m a Professor of Spanish Literature and Theater at NYU but I’m originally from California. I enjoy taking long walks in my free time and New York City always offers something new around every corner…I simply love it! My favorite season in the City is the Fall because of the trees changing color in Central Park and Halloween which is my favorite holiday. Through my blogs I’d like to make people interested in visiting the city and my neighborhood, Brooklyn, and I’d like to show people a new perspective on the Big Apple, from a resident’s point of view.

  • The Strand, 18 miles of books in the heart of the City.
  • New York City is an amazing place, everybody agrees on that.You can never get bored in the City, yet I think New York is at its best when the tulips and the cherry trees are blooming in the spring and people finally take off the scarves and the heavy jackets and enjoy the outdoors. Everything seems wonderful also in the summer and in the fall. Until the rain starts.

  • Bagel, the typical New Yorker breakfast
  • The first bagel I ate in New York City was when I sat down to have breakfast in a little bar in Soho, more than ten years ago, on my first trip to the city. I was about to order some toast with my coffee, when I saw a girl eating a bagel and remembered that it’s the staple ‘bread’ in the City.

  • Williamsburg and Greenpoint
  • Williamsburg, the most modern neighborhood in New York, is part of Brooklyn and it’s where you go nowadays if you want to find hipsters at their peak.First of all I must say that Williamsburg has become so popular and so hipster only in recent years so you can still find streets in which Orthodox Jews live and others in which the hipster culture is developing. Curiously, the border between one area and another is almost non-existent, although the contrast couldn’t be greater.

  • Attending a Gospel Mass in Harlem
  • Unlike downtown New York City, where everything has been commercialized in an exuberant way, the Gospel masses in Harlem have remained as they once used to be and they haven’t lost their essence.They are still an important part of the African-American culture and attending one is key to understand at least part of this culture.

  • In America, it is important to show passion in everything that you do. Americans fill stadiums and arenas (sometimes up to several times a week) regardless of the team playing, because Americans are always happy to attend sporting events, not only as spectators but as active supporters.

  • New York is full of museums, so much so that a long stretch of Fifth Avenue has been renamed as Museum Mile.   • The World Trade Center area, known as Ground Zero after the September 11th attacks, is located in Lower Manhattan.   • “Grand Central Station: a melting pot within a melting pot”
  • Grand Central Station is not an unknown place. Almost all visitors to New York decide to take a trip to what is one of the most famous places in the city, highlighted as fabulous in almost all guidebooks.
